DO RESEARCH

Our expertise spans across all water environments; from oceans and coastlines to rivers and cenotes. So, we offer a full range of ecological services within five areas of expertise:

1. Corporate Social Responsibility.
2. Marine & Freshwater Biodiversity Assessment.
3. Marine and freshwater Habitat Enhancements
4. Innovative Methods of Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration.
5. Outreach & Education
6. Logistical support

  • Corporate Social Responsibility
KALANBIO can support you in your CSR programs; mainly in: Improvement of the corporate ecological image In the context of the rapid and continuous deterioration of the quality of the environment, pollution prevention strategies have become a critical business issue for the global industrial sector. For this reason, many industries have worked to improve their environmental performance and link their products, services or brand image with “green” initiatives. Corporate Environmental Volunteering The Corporate Environmental Volunteering (CEV) supports environmental awareness actions among its employees and their families. The CEV improves the corporate image and relations with stakeholders by positioning itself as a leader in remuneration at a local and/or national level.
  • Marine & Freshwater Biodiversity Assessment
Biodiversity underpins ecosystem services, and both are key components to consider; mainly, during the development of the Environmental Impact Assessment projects. KALANBIO conducts studies of biodiversity and ecosystem services using internationally recognized techniques, taking into account the uniqueness of each project or area. We conduct surveys not only for development projects, but also for other institutions interested in collecting, interpreting and understanding such information for various purposes.
  • Marine and freshwater Habitat Enhancements
Habitat is a combination of food, drinking water, shelter, and physical space in which wildlife lives. Habitat quality and area are primary factors that determine the size and health of wildlife populations. The term "habitat enhancement" means manipulating the physical, chemical, or biological characteristics of habitat to change a specific function or seral stage of the habitat. An active habitat enhancement program is needed to mitigate the impacts of human development on wildlife and respond to a growing desire to observe and harvest wildlife.
  • Innovative Methods of Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration.
Artificial Habitat: Biohut® It is an ecological engineering device called: "Biohut®". Which were designed by the French company: ECOCEAN, as a practical and efficient proposal to address the problem of how to convert seaports into safe havens for fish postlarvae that approach ports and marinas. At the same time, a collaboration strategy could be developed with local stakeholders to develop an environmental education program and technology transfer to academic institutions; in order that the project can be maintained for many more years on its own. Post-Larval Capture Program We work with the technology of ECOCEAN; France. Ecocean’s ground-breaking capture device, the CARE® (Collect by Artificial Reef Eco-friendly) is a fishing device designed for open ocean live capture of healthy post larvae. Current CARE® device is the result of 10 years of continuous development and is now in its sixth version. The post-larval capture and culture strategy (CCP) is a proposal to develop an innovative and sustainable type of aquaculture that allows; Through the capture and breeding of pre-established postlarvae, strengthen the repopulation efforts of the natural fish populations and with this, reduce the impact of overexploitation.
  • Outreach & Education
We are interested in getting the public to assimilate scientific culture. In this sense, making scientific outreach is beyond reporting results. Disseminating science becomes a way of familiarizing the public with the scientific procedure, so as to put a little bit of what it is to be a scientist in each person’s imagination. Environmental Education Programs Our Environmental Education Program provides an education that empowers students and school communities to make informed resource conservation decisions and ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development and conservation and of the oceans and their resources. Microsites Part of our outreach work includes setting up web microsites to provide detailed information about a particular product, project, or service; that can help you create stories that resonate with your audience. Nature Observation Events: Bioblitz Bioblitz is a participatory citizen science event where the objective is to register as many species as possible in one place and during a certain time. Thanks to the Bioblitz, children, youth, and adults become aware of what biodiversity and nature really are. They learn about the ecosystems close to their residence and have fun finding species that they never even imagined were so close. In addition, useful data is generated for the study of biodiversity and scientific research. Design of Didactic Materials for Environmental Awareness We offer the design and development of materials: print and digital, of environmental education.
  • Logistical support
Technical & Scientific Expeditions (Reefs & Cenotes) The main goal of scientific expeditions is frequently to gather more information on biodiversity and poorly studied species, by assessing abundance and distribution and identifying potential threats. Traditionally, expeditions have focused on documenting biodiversity and discovering new species, especially in large taxa or little-known groups such as invertebrates, amphibians, and reptiles. Today scientific expeditions frequently discover new species for science, especially for some taxonomic groups such as marine invertebrates. But expeditions can also be for general assessments of biodiversity in remote locations, monitoring species in a long-term project, testing new technologies, or searching for species that have not been seen for a long time. Biodiversity & Conservation Event Planning The process of event planning and coordination includes the identification of budgets, scheduling, site selection, acquiring necessary permits, coordinating transportation and parking, arranging for speakers or entertainers, arranging decor, event security, catering, coordinating with third-party vendors, and emergency plans. Each event is different in its nature so the process of planning & execution of each event differs on the basis of the type of event.
